I enjoy mixed media collage because it gives me the freedom to explore so many textures and layers of varying transparency. I usually start with an abstract base and then turn to my scrap box for inspiration, rarely knowing where the image will end up. The ones that surprise me the most are my favorites. And that’s what art should do: take you somewhere you never imagined going.
In the 1970s, I lived in Paris and studied independently for a year, but I spent my professional life as a transportation planner, a typesetter, and then a Spanish teacher. In retirement I finally have the luxury of returning to art. I have taken classes locally but I am essentially self-taught. In addition to being a member of Gallery 360 in Vancouver, Washington I have shown in Portland and Lake Oswego.
