Naturally my art has evolved.  On the website I maintain for myself and my wife (see link below), I have arranged my 'galleries' according to the aesthetic or philosophy or interest I had at the time of painting.
        Art Aimed at the Sublime:  Kant's early essay on art proposes that we have two (related) aesthetic responses -- perception of the Beautiful, variety within order, and perception of the Sublime, variety boundless.  It's the different reactions we have to seeing a flower versus a mountainside of flowers.  These paintings try to get at that feeling of encountering the sublime.
       Linnear Art: After studying some of Degas' sketches, and thinking about his pursuit of 'the perfect line', I tried to create images reduced to straight lines.  I formed a crowd composed of triangles, a carnival scene or intersecting lines, a sunny sky just blocks of color formed from lines. The technique produces a certain style -- something odd, sometimes humorous, a funny look.
      Imaginary Landscapes:  I like imaginative landscapes, scenes that could never quite occur in nature but readily occur in the mind.
     Narrative:  Some of my paintings tell a story -- or at least invite the viewer to tell herself a story. Words, even a thousand words, cannot begin to tell the whole story.

    Lately I have returned to painting watercolor landscapes, partly from delight in the magic of washes and charging colors, and partly from delight in observing nature.  The hard lines of rocks in sublime falling water can spin a tale both violent and tranquil.

That’s the gist of it.  I paint what I find entertaining (and hope the viewer feels the same).​
